dWhat does it mean that we are adopted as sons? Is it just a statement of love and belonging, or is there more to it?

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and it is by this spirit that we cry out “Abba.” But Abba does not just mean “Father,” it means ”MY Father.” It is evidence of our adoption: God is MY Father because I have been permanently adopted as a son. However, we are not conformed to the image of a son in general, but to the image of the FIRSTBORN, a position of inheritance: we are CO-HEIRS with Christ. The double portion is the right of the firstborn. When Elijah died, he didn’t have any sons – that is why Elisha asked for a double portion of his anointing.

Jesus is the only begotten son, the only one who came from heaven. He was adopted into humanity so he could bear our sufferings, so we could be adopted into His divinity. He has given us His glory, the glory of the One and Only begotten Son of God, because He has united us with Himself and made us co-heirs with Himself, the Glorious One. We have nothing of our own, but we do have everything of His own that He has given to us!

Listen to this teaching and discover the fullness of what it means that we have been adopted into sonship and made co-heirs with Christ.
